Karpacz is located 530-885 m asl at the foot of Sniezka (1603 m asl), the highest peak of Karkonosze Mountains. Karpacz is made up of a number of districts which used to be separate villages. The history of the town dates back to XV century.
Dam on Lomnica River was built in 1910-1915 to protect Karpacz from being regularly flooded by this mountain river. Before the dam was built Lomnica used to cause serious damage in the town.
St Ann’s Chapel in Karpacz was built in the first half of the 13th century on the commission of prince of Jawor and Swidnica. The chapel was build in the vicinity of a spring gushing from the Western slope of Grabowiec (668 m asl). According to folk believes the spring has a power of healing.
Wang Temple, located in Karpacz Gorny 885 m asl, is a wooden church built at the turn of 12th and 13th centuries. It was originally erected in the town of Vang in Southern Norway but in the 19th century it was moved to Poland.
