Miedzyrzecz is one of the oldest Polish towns. Information about Miedzyrzecz may be found in Thietmara's chronicle, as early as 1005. Miedzyrzecz got municipial rights in 1248. More information on www.miedzyrzecz.pl.
Concrete lumps of bunkers, huge steel domes and rows of concrete poles (so called "teeth of a dragon") lost among forests and fields - such is the Miedzyrzecz Reinforced Region (MRU). The fortifications located in the vicinity of Miedzyrzecz were built by Germans between WWI and WWII and during the Second World War.
The "Old Castle" was erected on the eastern coast of Lubiaz Lake in 1793. The castle was rebuilt in neoclassical style in 1846. Yet another restoration followed in 1909, when the "New Castle" in neo-Renaissance style was build. The castle in Lubniewice is surrounded by the 19th century landscape park.
